Election of 1860
The election of 1860 was between republican Abraham Lincoln and democrat Stephen A. Douglas (of the people). The Republicans’ success in the elections was mostly due to their stand on slavery issues that were facing the nation. They opposed the expansion of slavery and called upon Congress to make sure that it didn't expand further then where it was. The Civil War became inevitable when the election of Abraham Lincoln during the 1860 presidential election. Due to Lincoln’s victory, South Carolina secedes from the nation. As South Carolina seceded, other southern states began to secede (Of the people). The secession of southern states lead to an alliance called the Confederate States of America (of the people) . The Election of 1860 was the point in American history that I the Civil War became inevitable.
